Our Mission
Silk Magazine is dedicated to supporting black artists that do not limit themselves to the genres that society continually tries to confine them in, such as R&B and HipHop. We seek to challenge these societal standards and show the world that black art does not exist in one form.

Emiko Herbert – Editor in Chief & Co-Founder
Emiko is a student at Columbia University majoring in psychology. Some of her favorite albums are ‘Negro Swan’ by Blood Orange, ‘Endless’ by Frank Ocean, and ‘Otis Blue’ by Otis Redding.
Karlton Gaskin – Managing Director & Co-Founder
Karlton is a student at Columbia University majoring in neuroscience. Some of his favorite albums include ‘Flower Boy’ by Tyler the Creator, ‘Blonde’ by Frank Ocean, and ‘My Beautiful Dark Twisted Fantasy’ by Kanye West.
Dahmuhnik – Marketing Director
Dahmuhnik is a student at Columbia University studying neuroscience. Some of his favorite albums are ‘Wolf’ by Tyler, The Creator, ‘Section 80’ by Kendrick Lamar, and ‘The Sun’s Tirade’ by Isaiah Rashad.
